Properties Of Electromagnetic waves

Electromagnetic waves are associated with following physical properties:

i) frequency

ii) wavelength

iii) Amplitude

iv) Intensity

Actually Electromagnetic spectrum is ordered according to frequency and wavelength.

1) Frequency:

Frequency is the number of occurence of a particular event per un

it time. Here the number of cycles of waves per unit time is the frequency of the wave.

The unit of frequency is Hertz (Hz) which is equal to unit occurence of a repeating event per second.

2) Wavelength :

It is the distance between identical points or adjacent crest or trough of a waveform signal.

It is usually measured in metres(m).

3) Amplitude :

It is maximum displacement or distance moved by point on vibrating body from its equilibrium position.

It is also measure in metre.

4) Intensity :

Here, Intensity is the strength of wave. It is also synonymous with amplitude, magnitude or level.

It is the intensity of radiant energy or power transferred per unit area.

It's unit is watt per square metre. (W/m^2)
